William Kentridge was born in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1955. His artistic training has been as diverse as his use of media and fields of work: from the 1970s to 1980s, he not only studied art at the Art Foundation in Johannesburg, but also political science, African studies and later theatre studies. Initially, he concentrated on drawing, literature, music and theatre in his creative work, later adding film and performance as means of expression. His artworks refer to politics, science, literature and history.
