The catalog is published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name from May 25th to 7th september 2003 at MGKSiegen.
Piene, born in Bad Laasphe (North Rhine-Westphalia) in 1928, started looking for new artistic means and forms of expression in the mid-1950s. In 1958 he founded the ZERO group together with Heinz Mack, followed three years later by Günther Uecker. Together, they promote a new beginning of art in numerous exhibitions and happenings. The ZERO artists are particularly fascinated by the medium of light. Piene will be concerned with it all his life.
