Being Jewish in between
Discussion on the Jewish present in Germany with Allon Sander and Tamara Loewenstein

It was only in Germany, during her DAAD stay in Berlin in 1985/86, that Miriam Cahn became increasingly aware of her Jewish identity. Since then, she discloses her Jewishness in texts and images alike. In view of the exhibition's title MEINEJUDEN (My Jews), in an examination of Jewishness in Miriam Cahn's work and the current debate on anti-Semitism, the talk aims to bring together other, very contemporary voices on being Jewish. The invited speakers discuss different perspectives on the Jewish present and future in Germany.

Tamara Loewenstein is a curator and cultural educator from San Francisco who lives in Hamburg. In her work, she weaves together history, identity, and political activism with a focus on trauma and memory. Allon Sander has lived in Germany since 1992 and is a journalist, author, and documentarian, as well as Jewish Chair of the Siegerland Society for Christian-Jewish Cooperation and a member of the Siegen Round Table of Religions. Laura Cazés is Head of Communications and Digitization at the Central Welfare Office of Jews in Germany. She studied psychology and social management in Göttingen and Berlin and is co-initiator of the annual Jewish Women Empowerment Summit.

The event is part of a lecture series in cooperation with the Art History Department at the University of Siegen and the Art History Institute at the University of Cologne.
