In his book “The Museum of Innocence”, Orhan Pamuk writes : “this museum is one that presents humanistic and personal stories, rather than authoritative histories of nations and empires.” The short lecture will be embedded in the topic of decolonizing museums and dealing with ethnographic collections, epistemic violence, colonial trauma and narratives from the Global South. In context of the exhibition “Amarantus”, many parallels arise in terms of research, found objects, artistic re-appropriation and new adaptations of narratives.

Since 2019, the anthropologist and cultural manager Nanette Snoep has been the director of the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum, Kulturen der Welt, in Cologne. Bevor that she worked at Musée du quai Branly, Paris, and was the director of the Staatlichen Ethnographischen Sammlungen Sachsen.
