Contemporary Photography in the Rheingold Collection
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Rheingold Collection select positions in contemporary photography are on display in the Museum für Gegenwartskunst Siegen.
To celebrate the Rheingold Collection’s 10th anniversary the Museum für Gegenwartskunst Siegen is featuring select positions in contemporary photography. In different ways the artists deal with our view onto the world. They question the medium’s conditions and the degree of reality pictures can contain. What relation does photography have to reality today?
From a primarily observing, in part carefully orchestrated perspective the artists approach everyday and ostensibly banal motifs, conducting a phenomenological rearrangement. They epitomize an archiving practice in contemporary art. The relationship between photography and other forms of visual art, such as painting, is examined along with the role that space and temporality, but also social, historical, and cultural connections have. The artists make equal use of both analog and digital photographic procedures or draw on found picture material.
